Welcome in, dear reader. We have your reservation right here. Best room in the house — ocean view. If you'll just take a seat over there, the porter will be right with you. We hope you enjoy your stay. Life updates! Due to our (unpaid) sabbatical, we've left a lot of ground to cover. Jake graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Spanish for the Business Professions, and then immediately decided he hadn't had enough of school. He's now four weeks into his first semester at Meredith where he's pursuing an MBA. Kate completed her training rotations at Appian and has been promoted to Solution Engineer. She ran her first 5K, got really into reading Brandon Sanderson fantasy novels, and has joined the Falls Church Community Band. Together, they recently celebrated their three year anniversary and their third blog post. Now, ladies and gentlemen, the moment you've been waiting for - the pride of Mount Vernon - movieeee reviewwwwwwww!!!!! ...

Howdy, pardner. Fancy seein' you in this here movie blog. Lucky for you, there's plenty a' room here for all of us. So put your feet up. Stay a while. See what we here been yappin' about.  P.S. (prescript): This post was fully written in June of 2024 but your dear editors couldn't find the Publish button 'til now. A bit of a time capsule, if you will. Stay tuned for the next 24 hours for the next installment of this illustrious periodical.  Life update time. It's been about four months since our last post, and in that time we've fundamentally changed as human beings. Jake is somehow still applying to jobs, working as a valet for Raleigh's most hoity toity restaurants, and looking forward to his 16th year of school (which will include a role as Pep Band Conductor and hopefully roles in various stage productions). Kate has successfully escaped from UNC Chapel Hill with a bachelor's degree in tow, and is enjoying her last summer (ahhhh!) before movi...

1929: The Broadway Melody / 1930: All Quiet on the Western Front

Welcome back, dear readers, to the third installment of our blog. Oh, what's that? This is our second blog post? We didn't make a post for the trainwreck the Academy blindly voted for in 1930? That's alright, we'll catch you up. (All spoilers are fair game. Vader is Luke's father.) The Broadway Melody is a love triangle gone wrong. Two young sisters, herein named Allie and Ellie, who believe they can sing, move to the nebulous Big City for their shot at stardom. Allie is engaged to a producer, who promptly decides he loves Ellie more than her. Allie's response? Saying mazel tov  to the happy couple and waltzing into the next poorly shot black and white scene. While this movie was not particularly enjoyable, Allie's lackluster passion was infuriating. Why is she not going after her man? Joyously encouraging his infidelity with someone who shares a childhood and, statistically, half her DNA with her? Unfathomable.  In the end, the girls' act gets sidelined...

Hello everybody! And welcome to our (Jake and Kate)'s blog. In the pages you will read within, you will find a recap and review of the movie that won the Oscar for Best Picture for every year from 1928 to... the current year. This may take us several years - thus, this blog may also function as a sort of recap for what's happened in our lives since our last blog post, on a grand scale.  J: Hello, dear reader (Mom, Dad, Sarah). I'm a junior at UNC studying Psychology with a minor in Spanish for the Business Professions. I have plans to get an MBA and pursue marketing, and maybe eventually get a PhD to teach at a university somewhere in the country. Check back with me in a couple years (and 20-30 movies) to see if my name is on a brick path somewhere yet.  K: This is now Kate writing. I could be lying, and this could still be Jake, but you'll just have to take my word on good faith. At the present (now), I am a senior at UNC studying Computer Science and Chinese. I have p...
